Surprise!! 7” of fluff overnight. Taking the roller out today, so tracks will not be set. aiming to get Loop to Bill Alberts and Silvermine groomed. Lippos loop will not be groomed.
Temperatures look like they’re holding steady, so a great weekend to try to get out

Tracks set from two days ago are holding up well. The typical low spots on Towhee and Lippo's Loop have finally frozen over, but have thin coverage. All other sections: great skiing. Until we get more snow, grooming will not happen. Friday looks like a nice accumulation coming, maybe 4-5" of our best friend! At that time, we'll groom the trails in preparation for the weekend. Today looks to be a tad warmer, so get out and ski. Take advantage of this weekend, also, as next week sees warm temps which might, potentially, destroy our base. Sadly! For those using kick wax, I was using Toko blue/red combo on Wednesday and it was bomb proof. The Swix equivalent would be green or blue. Today, with tracks being a bit hard packed, maybe go with a softer color. Happy skiing!!!

Hope to be grooming before 9:00. I'll update after finishing. It should be good. Looks like a few inches of fresh snow.

No grooming today, but hopefully tomorrow, if we get more snow. Skiing Silver Mine was primo! Upper trails still have track, but getting significantly smashed down. Those pesky wet spots persist on Lippos and Towhee. Temp was 17° with slight flurries. Great day to ski!

Temps below freezing this morning. Did not loose a lot of snow, still 10" in the woods. Ran the groomer around Lippo loop and too the warming hut. Most of the trail is OK, except areas need fill on lippo loop and upper towhee. You will find water on the trail in places but plenty of snow too ski too the. Side of the trail.

Update to this morning's post: trails were groomed. However, the wind had picked back up. Summit Road not plowed from downhill entrance to warming hut. The snow had turned to wet, dense consistency. So, driving in that might get you stuck, even with a Subaru. If nothing else, there's plenty of snow for now, and a packed base. Hopefully we can ski tomorrow!??

Surprise, surprise! It's a different world on Laurel Mountain. Currently 30°. Wind has subsided a bit. Going to attempt to groom trails, excluding Silver Mine.

Trails were groomed midmorning, with the exception of Silver Mine. Conditions were holding steady until the afternoon, at which time the trails were starting to deteriorate; smashed tracks, moisture in places and a few rocks. All in all, another decent day of skiing.

Laurel Mountain January 6, 2024 Weekend Outlook
I think we’re all encouraged by snow last weekend and looks like more on the way this weekend.
Last weekend while there was a good 4-5” of snow, issue was it fell on warm saturated soil. Soil should be drying out and colder temperatures are here.
Forecast includes another 4-5” Saturday starting at noon and 1”. Sunday 6pm. Seems Sunday morning and Monday will be the best opportunity.
The plan for grooming likely will fluctuate but plan at this point may include rolling trails Saturday and if all goes well setting some tracks on Sunday!
Snow levels depends allot on where system sets up so everyone do the snow dance!

I hiked, again, today on Laurel Mountain. Sadly, skiing is not doable, although I did see two folks trying. Why?? Not enough snow, and the ground is starting to warm backup, after today's bright sun. Will we ski for this coming weekend??? Only the snow gods know. If we get enough snow, I'll probbaly roll the upper trails. I seriously doubt there will be enough to set track. Hopefully!!! Do several snow dances!

Happy 2024!! Think positive for a good ski season. Snow dance NOW!!!
I TRIED to ski on LM today but conditions were not good. We still need more snow and, as long as it stays cold, our base is starting
to firm up. Also, I tried skiing the summit road, but it was pretty crappy, also.
Hang in there...maybe ski this weekend!????

Looks great on Laurel Mountain, but the ground is still too warm to really ski well. After hiking the trails yestersday, they were soup. So, we'll need a long stretch of cold to freeze up the ground, and then we need more snow. I doubt we'll be skiing before Christmas this year.
Memory lane: last year, we skied the week befor the holidays.

We got a few inches last night.
As far as trails being groomed this winter , it would be helpful after a snow if anyone is on lippo loop regularly, if they would email if any very wet areas that snow did not accumulate on lippo loop.
Mazurrj1@gmail.com.
Generally we can't groom unless we have at least 7" to 8" on the trail with no large wet areas on at least lippo loop. Sometimes if snow is real dense we can groom with a little less
Happy Holidays.
