Snow conditions history for Wainer Park

Thank you to all the snow conditions reporters who provide these updates for us.

2 March 2020

Terrible melt down. I would say it’s very un skiable...unfortunately we are getting close to storing the equipment for the season. But lots of big planning in place for next year!!! But need to find some pretty serious funding sources!

Well over a foot of snow. Was able to roll it out a few times during the storm. Got everything groomed and track set. It’s a little soft but quickly starting to set up pretty nice.

Loooooong night!!!! I had to go out and do some rolling to make the snow manageable for tomorrow. It was pounding the whole time!! I’m sure it’s going to be slow and soft in the am. I’m hoping to get out there by lunch time tomorrow to groom and set some track.
Nathan Latimer1:32 am 29 February 2020

27 February 2020

Getting some of the white stuff!!! Got about 4 inches, hopefully will have another foot on top of that by Saturday night! I’m going to try and roll every 4-5 inches so I can get ya a good base. I’m still without the skandic, due to repairs, so I’m going to wait to use the finish groomer and set track until Friday or Saturday. You can definitely ski but skating is going to be pretty soft and slow.

21 February 2020

I tried to do a little bit of resurfacing...the walkers make my life pretty difficult. However I was pretty successful conditions are fast and I managed to get rid of a lot of the ice!
Nathan Latimer4:37 pm 21 February 2020

20 February 2020

Conditions are pretty nice at the park. Have about a fluffy inch on top of an icy base. I’m either going to go out tonight or tomorrow after work to do some resurfacing!
Nathan Latimer6:17 pm 20 February 2020

16 February 2020

Fat tire biking was a success!! Everything is pretty soft, but groomed and track set!!! Skating should be decent in the am tomorrow or later tonight.

Man....Everything is groomed and solid. This freeze tonight along with a little inch or two of snow is making up for a great weekend of winter activities!! QUAD Ski is sat at Wilderness. Groomer Nick says it will be the best conditions since the race moved there in 2012. Jim Cole has been busting his hump designing game and perfecting the course for the 2nd Annual Fat Wainer at Wainer Park on Sunday at 9am. Just groomed the course and it will be super solid and I will stay on top of it making for the best conditions ever for the Fat Wainer. Only thing I did not do is set some traditional track and I will do that tomorrow at some point.

Leveled out the park tonight. Tomorrow I’m getting out of work early and I took Friday off. So I should be able to keep up with the grooming!!! Friday I’m going to pick up my wounded sled in New York. Then prep the QUAD course for the race Sat. So Friday evening I will be back at Wainer grooming and prepping the park for the Fat Tire racing party Sunday at 9am at the park. Loud Performance Bike shop out of Bemus Point is bringing a handful of demo bikes if you would like to dabble. If you want to race a suggested donation of 20 dollars will include a buffet style lunch from engine house 39. And as always all donations are always welcome!! https://www.gofundme.com/f/vu2svu-mobile-trail-grooming?utm_medium=copy_link&utm_source=customer&utm_campaign=p_na+share-sheet&rcid=6f6d3ec8015a48a9bb57a28baa0210b3

GROOMING UPDATE!!! Back from Bemus Point my poor sled is in icu and I will probably end up selling it If the price is right. (A guy down there seemed real interested in it.) Just rolled and groomed everything. The arena is groomed and ready for skating. Everything is in kind of rough shape. Even though the snow is packing really well, it’s a little warm to groom. Good coverage for the most part. It’s also a little messy because I was finalizing the course for the Fat Wainer. (This Sunday) So there are some real messy trails with bad coverage. I will be grooming for the sight center at Asbury tomorrow, so I’m hoping that I will be able to freshen up the course Wednesday or Thursday! DONT FORGET. -QUAD Ski- Saturday at 10 -Fat Wainer-Sunday at 9 *If you haven’t donated to the gofundme yet, this is probably the best time!!

Now real snow to be had at Wainer Park. But I will be grooming at Winterfest on the Bemus Point Golf Club and Taphouse. They are supposed to get hit pretty hard and I will be grooming all day Friday and Saturday. Suggested donation of 10 dollars will be the trail fee but if you don't have it, that's ok too.

GROOMING UPDATE! Full morning/afternoon of grooming!!! Got everything pretty well packed. It was super sticky when I got there in the am. I rolled, then groomed, then set some track. I give the conditions a solid 7/10. After all that; I spent a little time experimenting with a sled similar to my sled setup that’s en route. Hoping once I get the hitch and runners for my sled I can really weigh it down. I groomed some areas for the fat bikers in the gas well field.

28 January 2020

Just got back from grooming. I give it a 6 or 7 out of 10. My plan was to level everything out but, a) I don’t think it was cold enough and, b) I probably should have taken the side by side. Good news-it’s absolutely skiable. It is pretty rutted up from high foot traffic, but there is going to be good skating in the arena and in the big gas well field. Also I groomed the sled riding hill. I also set some track. Only spotty area is veterans park (first area you see when you pull in). PS: if you are going to bring your dog please bring a baggy and clean up after them. Cleaning up dog poop out of my groomer is not as fun as it sounds.

Going to stay off the snow the next couple days. There is a solid base and I’m hoping it will survive the brief warmup and then I will groom sat or sun

Naomi fixed my picture problems!!! Everything at the park is hard and fast!! I went out tonight and resurfaced. I scraped the icy spot and tried to take out some of the bumps. I did not reset any traditional track. I also groomed and expiremented with some trails for the fat bikes on the interior of the gas well field. I hope and think that my base will make it through the warmup!

20 January 2020

Sorry about the sideways pictures I have tried orienting the he pic and everything....anyways! This weekend was awesome and we should have a few more days of good skiing before another warmup! Track is set and have a lot of skate skiing available. Plus the sled riding hill is groomed! Hopefully the forecast is wrong(I feel they are only wrong when it comes to predicting snow)

Snow is in abundance!! Will be grooming all day today starting around 9am.
Nathan Latimer7:30 am 20 January 2020

19 January 2020

Rolling!!!!! Decent snow in the half mile arena loop! Other areas are pretty wind blown. But I should be able to establish a decent base. Will groom late tonight or tomorrow.
Nathan Latimer11:34 am 19 January 2020

18 January 2020

The only good thing about getting a fraction of the snow that the forecast predicted is that the ground had some extra time to firm up! We are getting hit hard now, supposed to have a brief warmup then more snow and cold tonight. I’m hoping to roll and groom tomorrow am.

My son is showing his distaste for the next 5 days of weather forecasted(I also need to hide my pens better. )Unless something drastically changes, I will fill you in next Wednesday or Thursday when the snow flys again!
Nathan Latimer10:52 am 10 January 2020

9 January 2020

Groomed yesterday. There is minimum coverage but enough to ski in some spots if you are really itching to get out there. Just don’t bring your good skis. In other news I added a skandic to compliment my side by side and it is much neater and cleaner grooming. I will probably use the utv when it’s really cold or just to use the roller.

8 January 2020

Getting some snow in the Boro!! Not a ton, but I will groom the arena area which is about a half mile rolling loop. If conditions let me, I will groom the bigger portion of the park but it tends to stay pretty wet on that side. If we are lucky we will have about a day and a half of skiing before it all melts...again

If we would have gotten 10 percent of the snow that has been predicted this season we would have had about 12 days of good skiing so far. Last nights prediction of 6-10 was actually about half an inch in Edinboro. Hopefully my next post has some good news.

27 December 2019

Sad...just real sad. No Snow. No skiing. Buuuuut, I am going to be picking up a snowmobile tomorrow so WHEN the snow comes I will be able to roll with the tracked side by side and groom with the snowmobile! Not much skiing or sled riding to be had at Wainer but the park is open for some sloppy hiking if you desire! Hopefully I will have another update that involves the white stuff soon!!
